In 1995, the importance of recognizing and supporting Healing Touch and related research was recognized by Janet Mentgen and Healing Touch Program (HTP) (then known as the Colorado Center for Healing Touch). Dr. Cynthia Hutchison, RN, MSN, DNSc, CHTP/I, HTCP/I, the current Director of Healing Touch Program, was the first Director of HT Research (until 2000). They envisioned that a more rapid growth of the program and its worldwide acceptance would be accelerated if specifically backed by scientific studies. The role of the Director of Research was to compile Healing Touch and related research and provide reports and presentations to the Healing Touch community as well as to provide consultation as needed. Over one hundred HT studies have been completed by HT researchers affiliated with universities and health care institutions over the ensuing years. The results of many of these studies are reported in peer review journals.

In addition to this website, Healing Touch research continues to be compiled and presented through Healing Touch International. Diane Wind Wardell, PhD, RNC, HNC, CHTP, CHTI, continues in the role of Research Director for Healing Touch International.
